Accounting Expert

About the role

About the Role Workbolt AI is seeking senior accounting professionals to create and evaluate high-stakes accounting and tax reasoning tasks used to improve advanced AI systems. This project-based role combines the financial-reporting, audit, technical-accounting, and rubric-development focus seen in leading AI expert programs with rigorous U.S. tax-statute interpretation and scenario testing. What You Will Work On You may construct realistic scenarios involving financial statement preparation, technical accounting research, external and internal audit, complex transactions, internal controls, and U.S. sales-and-use-tax law. You will draft reference outputs and scoring rubrics, evaluate AI-generated analyses against applicable standards or statutory language, and create test scenarios that expose missing conditions, thresholds, exceptions, or logical relationships. Accounting and Audit Workstreams Projects may cover revenue recognition, leases, consolidations, business combinations, financial reporting, SEC-style disclosures, audit planning and workpapers, SOX and internal-control assessments, ERP-supported workflows, and technical accounting memoranda. Assignments may follow a U.S. track using U.S. GAAP and PCAOB standards, an international track using IFRS and International Standards on Auditing, or both. Tax-Analysis Workstreams Tax-focused assignments may require close reading of sales-and-use-tax statutes and regulations across U.S. state jurisdictions, with occasional federal provisions. You may translate statutory subsections into discrete evaluation criteria, assign severity based on genuine statutory importance, and test whether AI outputs correctly represent conditions, thresholds, AND/OR logic, defined terms, exceptions, dates, and amounts. How It Works 1. Apply: Submit your résumé, availability, and work-authorization information and complete the selected assessments. 2. Get reviewed: Workbolt AI evaluates your accounting background, credentials, technical judgment, and written communication. 3. Review the project: Qualified experts receive the scope, standards or jurisdictions, schedule, deliverables, and compensation details. 4. Complete onboarding: Selected experts review project instructions, confidentiality requirements, evaluation standards, and tooling. 5. Contribute remotely: Produce and review structured accounting tasks, reference materials, rubrics, and feedback within the project platform. Project and Contract Information This is a remote independent-contractor opportunity. Project scope, weekly commitment, and duration may vary, and projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on business needs and performance. No prior AI experience is required; precision, accounting judgment, and the ability to turn complex standards or statutes into testable requirements are what matter most. Experts must not use or disclose confidential, proprietary, client-restricted, audit-sensitive, or material non-public information.

Responsibilities

  • Construct complex accounting scenarios spanning financial reporting, technical accounting research, external and internal audit, transaction accounting, tax analysis, and internal controls using realistic facts, materiality considerations, and professional tooling.
  • Apply the relevant framework—including U.S. GAAP and ASC guidance, PCAOB standards, IFRS, ISA, or applicable U.S. tax statutes and regulations—to produce reference financial statements, technical memos, audit workpapers, control assessments, or statutory analyses.
  • Author detailed scoring rubrics that break standards or statutory provisions into discrete, independently verifiable requirements and distinguish critical errors from secondary or minor issues based on genuine accounting or legal significance.
  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs against reference materials, checking calculations, classifications, conditions, thresholds, AND/OR logic, exceptions, disclosures, citations, internal consistency, and the quality of professional judgment.
  • Create clear test scenarios and edge cases with explicit facts, dates, amounts, and expected outcomes; document ambiguities, provide structured written feedback, incorporate reviewer comments, and meet project quality and delivery standards.

Benefits

  • Competitive project-based compensation of $70–$150 per hour, depending on the assignment, track, credentials, and experience.
  • Flexible, fully remote independent-contractor work with project schedules and commitments communicated before acceptance.
